Coca-Cola in Europe takes its paper bottle prototype to trial in Hungary

Another step forward by collaborating across the value chain. A paper bottle made by Paboco, designed by Grow and trialed with The Coca-Cola Company's plant-based drink, AdeZ.

Two Pabocians that have been working closely with the Coca-Cola team and Grow, design agency is Tim Silbermann, Project Manager Product Development and Michael Michelsen, Commercial Manager.

“The collaboration with The Coca-Cola Company is really great and shows the wonderful capabilities of paper – especially in the design with the unique texture. To reduce plastic weight of the barrier film while keeping the wide mouth opening was challenging, but I am excited about the learning from filling line tests and end consumer feedback. Those will play a major role in developing further towards our goal.” says Tim Silbermann

“Having worked with a team that was able to iterate so quickly, in the adaptation of design to fit function of the product has been an amazing set of challenges to overcome in record time. I am proud to see the paper bottle forego its labels and instead use a water-based ink for its direct print decoration. From here, with the consumer trials we will build learnings on recyclability and consumer feedback. All this will improve our understanding of the current generation of bottle, while our shared sustainability drive brings us further to the next generation of bio-based paper bottles” says Michael Michelsen.
